Daily Prompt - "The Early Years" - Loss of a Mother

"Write Page three of your autobiography"

Hmmmm page three???? Haven't even done page 1 or 2 yet..... How am I suppose to do page 3.... And are we talking in the literal sense or proverbially sense. Either way the previous comment applies. Haven't written literal pages 1 or 2 and all I've got so far is my "past" and my "now"... The future is yet unwritten - it can't be- We don't know what it holds. Only G-d knows the answer to that (and he's not tellin).

I'll do my best to take a page from my earlier years (not sure how what when where) that page fits in).

Just a few months after my 5th birthday, my mother killed herself (yeah, I know, getting off to a morbid start aren't we) via hanging. Till recently I was always under the impression that I had been at a pseudo-gramma's house, but that may not have been the case - But that isn't important to this "story" as I don't consciously remember anything (and can't write about what I only remember sub-consciously.

I was told, while growing up, that I was sent to live with my Aunt and Uncle for a few months but this fact alludes me. Apparently my mind has shut it out because I remember nothing about living with them (just as I remember nothing of being home when Mom died. Funny thing, the brain.... Funny how it "protects" by shutting out unpleasant memories......  Anyway, apparently this didn't go so well for me and I was sent back home to live with my dad. Now, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for him to raise a young daughter who looked like the spitting image of her mother.

I won't say that I'm over the loss of my mother because, quite frankly, that is IMPOSSIBLE. You never get over a loss of a mother. There were a number of times throughout my life when I'd really begin to miss her (like on my wedding day); But, life goes on.

I have a Facebook page created in dedication to my mother (an Artist & Author) with pictures of her artwork. I have also begun to include information about Depression, PTSD, Suicide, and other related topics. Hopefully, in sharing information, we can become better informed

Random Topic Writing Challenge - Parenting

Today I ended up choosing the word "Parenting"

Timer Set... Go.....

Parenting, it's an interesting journey with many ups and downs (much like that of a roller coaster ride). You go along the journey not knowing if your doing the right thing till your child (or children - each one's different) is grown. Well okay, you might have an idea as they develop into tween and teen-agers. Speaking of tween age years those have ogt to be the most ummmm interesting times. I am constantly faced with self debate as to whether I want to hug & cuddle my son or hang him from ceiling fan... And I'm sure its no picnic for him either ("Mom, I wish you weren't here" - while he's hugging & climbing on me.

My son can be a constant source of *headshaking* moments as he goes on about some idea or another, usually related to science or technology or something.  I can hardly keep up with him some days.  I wonder what he'll end up becoming.

Blog Hop Photo Prompt: Cholesteotoma

Didn't get a chance to post the WWBH announcement this week (think it was from last  week also)  as I was busy catching up from my trip to Arizona (May try to put up some pictures I took).
This week Leann Sype (Writings and Ruminations) took a stab at the WWBH reigns and did an awesome job!!

If you haven't yet seen last weeks entries, here they are:

Okay so here it goes

BlogHopInspiration

Mandatory words:  lobster, remote control, luggage, ears, exam

Cholesteotoma
Sandy had always loved the rain, loved to run & jump through the puddles in  her lobster red rainboots holding her yellow with red polka-dot umbrella (if she bothered to remember it that was)...  Her mother always scolded her about going out in the rain without her ear-muffs and jacket hood on.  Sandy hated wearing those ear-muffs - Hated how they felt on her ears.  And the hood of her jacket meant she couldn't feel the rain on her hair and face the way she liked.  Now there would be no more running about in the rain, not for a very long time - Maybe forever.

A few weeks ago, after a particular cold and rainy day that Sandy had been running around in, she had gotten an ear-ache that quickly turned into an ear-infection.  The ear infection hadn't been bad at first, "we should be able to treat it with antibiotics" the ENT had said at the first exam, but the infection had gotten worse and refused to go away.  Finally, stronger antibiotics killed the infection but the doctor still had more bad news.

"it looks like the cholesteotoma is back.  Sandy still remembered all the surgeries she had had to have it removed and the medications afterwards -yuck!  The doctor wasn't finished yet.... "I'm afraid it's worse this time.  The cholesteotoma has grown even bigger than last time.  If we don't get it treated right away there's a good chance Sandy could go completely deaf and there's also a chance that it could extend into her brain."

Surgery was scheduled and Sandy and her mom were given instructions to check in at the hospital early the next morning.  Sandy's mom had helped her pack her purple and pink luggage bag with her favorite stuffed horsey from her Aunt Teri and blanket from her Gma Nonny.

Now she lay on her hospital bed playing with the remote control that moved the bed.   The medicine she was given earlier already starting to make her groggy.  "We're ready to take her down to surgery" the orderly, who had just entered the room, said after checking her chart and bracelet.

Note: The story, for most part, is fictional - but parts are based on truthy.  I actually did have cholesteotoma as a child.  Mine was caught early on but apparently it can, if left untreated for long periods of time, eventually cause hearing loss and (in rare cases) affect parts of brain or even cause death.  I was lucky in that I only ended up with some hearing loss.  Also, I actually do have an Aunt Teri (who have me stuffed horse when I was little);  And a Grandma Nonny (actually Nonny), from whom my last gift (before shed died) was a robe (not a blanket).

Random Topic Writing Challenge - "BOOM" (Thunder and Lightening)

With travel & Holidays and such I had to put my blogging on hold for a bit - Now it's time to get back in the swing..... So let's see what my word today is (choosing from my stash)..... "BOOM" (this word came from my 11 year old son. Starting up 5 minute timer.... And here we go....

"BOOM" The sound of something crashing? The sound of a bomb? The sound of a gun? The sound of something falling? An explosion? So many things it could be.... But my favorite is Thunder.

I always use to listen to the sounds of Thunder (and watch the lightening streak through the sky) Counting the seconds between Thunder and Lightening to determine distance. Let's see was it Thunder to Lightening or Vice Verse.... And was it 7 miles for every second or 7 seconds for every mile. Hell I don't remember now (learned all that years ago though).

In my son's case... Boom usually has to do with an idea for an explosions (hey what do you expect from an 11 year old boy?). Wants to know what happens when you mix this chemical and that together or (better yet) "smash 'x' atom & 'y' atom together at high rate of speed" = BOOM!!! (LOL).

#Teachers should be addressed by Last Name

Time to get back to my blogging now that I'm home from my trip to Arizona.

Right now, the thought on my mind is the differences in how my generation (and earlier ones) addressed teachers (and other adults)...  When I was in school, a teacher was addressed as "Mr." "Mrs.", "Ms." or "Miss" - NEVER by they're first name.  Now a days I have found that some teachers actually introduce themselves by their first name an encourage their students to call them by that name....  Even as an adult teachers, that I've kept in contact with, are (and always will be) adressed as "Mr." "Mrs." etc as appropriate.

I can't speak with authority on the subject but can only give my opinion that this lackadaisical attitude towards the usage of students being on first name basis with teachers is one that can breed a lack of respect.  The idea that teachers (as well as all adults) are on the same level as the child.  Teachers (good ones anyway) help to mold and shape our future generations...  They deserve respect

I want to thank all the teachers I had growing up

#DailyPrompt: Imitation is Flattery - Lady Doctors That shouldn't Be

Today's Daily Post Challenge (at least I think it's today's) is based on the "imitation is flattery" idea. Since I just got through Laughing my Frickin Ass off Reading Jodi's blog (Snatch Monster, Muff Mauler and Road Rage. A Rant for all Seasons!) over at JodiAmbroseBlog), I thought  I'd use her for this exercise. {Warning: Watch out for language below - if you have sensitive ears = turn away now} *********************************************************
http://i.chzbgr.com/completestore/2009/7/5/128912902985134952.jpg

There are some Lady Doctors (and by that I'm not referring to Ladies who become doctors but doctors who specialize in the study and treatment of the parts of the lady's anatomy down in the nether-regions) who just should NOT be allowed anywhere near those parts much less be allowed to practice medicine in that area.

I had one of these such doctors for what was either my first or second (I strongly believe it was my first) of these tortuous visits.  As if I wasn't already a FUCKING wreck with the thought of undressing and lying naked with my legs spread wide in front of a complete stranger (I wasn't the kind of girl who was comfortable with her body and could openly undress in the girl's locker room - I tended to make myself as small as possible ); Not to mention the thought of having that "down-there" area physically examined for the first time, Especially considering my "innocent" state of my body at the time...

So, anyway, the doctor comes in and is instantly gruff and hurried (would you believe this "Lady Doctor" was a female).  She tells me to lie on the examining table, instructing me to put my feet into the stirrups and scoot on down (till my ass felt like it was about to fall of the FUCKING Table)  So here I am legs spread wide, Ass half off the table and she RAMS her FUCKING hand clear up to windpipe (or so it felt that way to me) effectively knocking the DAMN wind out of me.  Needless to say i about came off the table. WHAT THE FUCK?!?! This BITCH Had to be a Women Hater or something.

Somehow, I managed to survive that tortuous Exam from HELL (though how I'll never know).  On my way past the nurses desk I hissed that I never EVER wanted to have that BITCH (I think I did manage to refrain from that particular verbage in public - though my displeasure had to have been transparent) as a doctor again.

Thankfully when I went back the next year, that particular doctor was no longer practicing at that clinic and I was blessed with a wonderfully sweet doctor who was gentle and took her time (but in such a way as to not drag on experience).
